MembershipMembership in the Alabama Association of Accountants and Tax Preparers shall consist of five classes:

Applicants for Active membership must be:
1) An independent Accountant, CPA, tax practitioner, bookkeeper or and employee of an Accountant or CPA. He or she shall have been in public practice for two (2) or more years, or employed by an Accountant or CPA for two (2) or more years prior to engaging in public practice; or
2) An Internal Revenue Agent or State Tax Examiner for two (2) or more years prior to engaging in public practice; or
3) An Office Auditor or Tax Technician for the Internal Revenue Service or Alabama Income Tax Examiner for four (4) or more years prior to engaging in Public practice; or
4) A student of an accredited university or college with a major in accounting who desires to enter the field of accounting or who is currently employed by an Independent Accountant or any Accounting who is not registered with the State Board of Public Accountancy, due to the closed registration, who has been in public practice for at least three (3) years, or a CPA.
5) In addition to the foregoing professional qualifications, the applicant must be of good moral character, hold a State of Alabama license and any other license required by his or her local community and maintain an office and retain his or her working papers.
